Intent

At Bessacarr Primary, it is our intention that all of our children will thrive as ‘lifelong learners’ who will become healthy, safe, responsible and independent members of our families, local community and the global community. We hope, when our children leave Bessacarr Primary, they do so with the knowledge, understanding and emotions to be able to have positive relationships with others, take care of their mental and physical wellbeing and play an active role in today’s society. We want our children to have a sense of belonging, a belief in themselves, feel proud of who they are and their lives, to feel valued, celebrate their uniqueness and have high aspirations.

We aim to do this by providing a rich and varied PSHE curriculum (which includes Relationship Education, Relationship Sex Education and Health Education) of equal opportunity, to nurture and educate the “whole” child, regardless of their ability, disability, ethnicity, gender or social circumstances.

Our intent is to help children to:

  • Develop a confidence in sharing their own thoughts and opinions with others in a tolerant and respectful manner
  • Develop character skills to support healthy and safe relationships
  • Develop the ability to communicate comfortably about emotions, bodies and relationships, using age appropriate terminology
  • Develop skills and attributes to keep themselves healthy and safe, both physically and mentally
  • Develop an attitude of a responsible global citizen
  • To show tolerance of others beliefs, religions and life choices
  • Develop our school core values within every pupil (effort, collaboration, independence, pride, resilience and respect) and other character building skills that are transferable into other subjects: careful observation, concentration, perseverance and critical thinking
